Hello everyone,
My experience with the double tap is somewhat varied. I find tapping first, counting to two, then tapping again works the best. The double tapping speed you would normally do to double click a mouse seems too fast for the Pebble to register and you will end up doing 3x or 4x taps before it will send the update request. Save your wrist/ knuckle/ etc and just slow the double tap down.

I have finally finished writing my very first Pebble app. It's called Watching the Sky.
The watchface has the following features:
- Current time- automatically changes to the user's 12/24hr preference
- Current date- shown in dd MMM format
- Battery charge- line at the bottom of the screen, indicating battery charge from 0-100%
- Charging indicator - Battery charge inverts in colour when plugged in to a power supply
- Current local area name- as per Yahoo! location service
- Current temperature- for user's current local area from Yahoo! weather
- Weather observation time- gives the user an indication how old the weather data is from Yahoo! weather. NOTE: this is NOT the time of the last data request sent, but the time of the weather observation (i.e. when Yahoo! last updated their data).
- Current weather condition- graphically displays the current weather condition from Yahoo! weather
- Current sun position- based on the sunrise and sunset times from Yahoo! weather, the position of the sun will change on the screen as the day progresses. The sun will rise in the east (right) side of the screen and set in the west (left) side of the screen.
- Current moon phase- The moon phase is calculated within the program. The moon phase is displayed on the screen at night. Still fine-tuning formula.
- Day/Night sky- Based on the sunrise and sunset times from Yahoo! weather, the sky background will change from blank daylight sky to stary night time sky. I have included three constellations in the graphic for the astronomy geeks to find. See if you can find them. One will require a new moon to find.
- Tap to look behind the weather- The sun and moon features are pretty novel, but can be easily covered up by the weather graphics. By tapping the watch, the weather animates up and out of the way for 4secs, then comes back down in to position. This action can also trigger the backlight and a data refresh request (double tap). If you allow the weather to cover the observation time and location, removing the weather will allow you to clearly read this information.
- Bluetooth connection monitoring- Bluetooth connection event is triggered whenever the connection is lost to the phone. A little bluetooth icon will appear to the left of the time to indicate the fault. The icon will automatically disappear when reconnected. A short vibration is also triggered to alert the user.
- Pebble phone app connection monitoring- sometimes, things go wrong that aren't necessarily a bluetooth disconnection. If the watch performs a data request, but cannot talk to the phone, even though they are connected via bluetooth, another little icon (that looks like a little phone with a ?) will appear to alert the user to check their phone to resolve an issue. Typically, it will be the Pebble app has quitted, or stopped responding. There may be other faults as well that the user will have to figure out. The icon will disappear when a software data connection is re-established.
- Bin night reminder- The user enters their bin collection day. The night before the bins will be collected, a little trash can will appear to the right of the time. It is just a gentle, subtle reminder to put the bins out. It can save someone forgetting, getting woken up by the garbage truck, at which point making the mad dash and hopefully getting to the kerbside in time.
- Weather forecast notification- At a set time each day, the Yahoo! weather forecast for the day (or the next day if it's set to a time in the afternoon), will be sent to the watch. This notification will appear like a normal notification from the phone and can be dismissed. I don't plan to include any forecast information on the actual watch face.
